“I don’t think of all the misery, but of the beauty that till remains.” – Anne Frank
At times like this, we can feel like we have lost so much. Our day-to-day lives have been turned upside down.
My daughter Wendy visited me today (from a safe distance!) dropping off prescriptions and other essentials I couldn’t get online – it was hard not being able to just reach over and hug her, like ‘normal’.
We talked briefly about Terry Waite – the British Humanitarian who was taken hostage for over four years in Beirut – much of it in solitary confinement. In a recent interview he recommended a change of mindset from being ‘stuck’ in-side to be ‘safe’ at home.
It made me think of Anne Frank’s ordeal. I am so grateful to be free to move around my home, play music, watch TV etc. without the constant fear Anne & her family endured.
Sometimes we just need to shift our perspective from sadness to gratitude.
Stay home, stay safe & stay grateful for what you still have.
