During the recent ‘lockdown’ period, our world changed.

We felt our health was in danger, being outside felt unsafe, and we felt stressed, anxious and fearful.

This fear is the cue for our reptilian brain to take charge, because we are hard wired for it to do so when our very existence feels threatened.

You may have found yourself feeling out of control around food, the food we have stockpiled for fear it might run out, and you have been craving carbs, sugar and comfort foods. If we are carrying extra fat, we can’t die if food becomes scarce.! Simple.

As you’re reading this, I hope your life is becoming less restrictive, however, any time we experience rapid change, and increased stress, the same feelings can emerge.

However, we CAN stay safe without eating the house and putting on weight, provided we make some simple changes.

  1. Avoid mindless eating and snacking! If you are constantly in the kitchen, ask yourself if you are physically hungry before you start eating chocolate!
  2. Plan your meals ahead of time and only buy those ingredients.
  3. Take time to prepare your meals with care and eat slowly and mindfully.
  4. Don’t eat in front of the TV or at your desk.
  5. Drink water! 2-3 litres a day preferably.
  6. If you need help, ask for it.
