“Everything will be all right in the end, If it’s not all right. it is not yet the end.” Patel, Hotel Manager, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it, they say. Whilst this may be true, we must remember that life comes in waves, so if we learn the lessons of our own past and those of our friends and families we will be more resilient than we know.
A colleague recently lost their job and berated themselves on social media for feeling negative. I shared some thoughts. You are not alone. This has happened before and may happen again and you will be o.k. I wrote. You are stronger than you think and if all you suffer is the occasional down day, well, you are doing better than most, I added. Then I shared my own experience.
I have worked through three recessions over thirty years and in each one, I have lost a job. Whilst at the time, it was stressful and yes, I had down days, I did whst I could and trusted that with the support of those around me, it would be all right in the end.
Think back to what our parents and grandparents lived through and one quickly realises that all this has happened before and if they could survive it (as we know they did), you will too.
