Have you ever meet someone and wondered “What is their story”? What happened in their life to get them to where they are at this moment.

A have a friend that call me part of Generation X – huh? Well she said that “Gen X – Known as a generation of shifting social values and commonly referred to as “latch key children”” Well for me, I grew up in a small tiny rural town – we did not even have keys. Did not everyone just leave the house unlocked and the key in the pickup. I rode my horse around the streets (all seven of them) and even to school some times. So a girlfriend reminded me. Funny thing is when you are high school your one goal is to move to the city! And then, when you have kids, you want to raise them like you were raised, in my case, my kids needed horses and they were lucky enough to grow up on them. Back to the country.

So back to my topic.

People just do not know that their stories can change someone lives. Like the little kid that is struggle with school, having a hard time making friends. Or the lady that got on a ship and sailed across the ocean from England to live the story she saw in England on the movie theatres of the “Western way of life in America”. (that was my mom) Oh how I wish she was here to tell more stories now. I learned a few things just listening as she chatted with my daughters. Or of the doctor’s son that did not follow in his father’s footstep and chose a different path.

I spoke with a lovely lady in the post office the other day and encouraged her at 80 years young to write her stories. Her children will get to a time when life takes a breathe, to enjoy her stories of her youth and adventures she was on. What a treasure to gift her grandchild with for days after she no longer writes. As she looked at her bent circled fingers, I said well if you cannot write it, then have someone video you. For every challenge there is an answer. She told me that if she started to write, she would not stop as she loves it so much. I replied, and what is stopping you now. I expect to see a new book soon, why not!

I have a dear friend that moved to live out in Vancouver over 30 years ago. Two provinces away. She rides the SkyTrain to and from work into downtown Vancouver. And remember, she grew up in that same tiny town I did. So — SkyTrain!! – remember I just road a horse. So I love when she shares her adventures with me. I am waiting to see the “Blog” and upcoming book on those adventures.

So remember and take the time to listen to others stories, you never know what you have in common and could even learn a trick or two from their adventures. Of course, to have a good laugh about what they survived thru, with them of course.
